For the suaku Singaporeans who only experienced summer

As Singaporeans who are looking for a relaxing and affordable getaway in December, many of us may choose an East Asian country like Japan or China to get that long-deserved break. That being said, do you know that these countries tend to experience colder temperatures in December? That’s right.

Before you start worrying about how to dress warmly (and fashionably), check out the temperature range for your travel period. Our winter fashion recommendations are based on temperatures around 5 degrees and above. If your travel destination is colder, do remember to layer up with a thicker down jacket and thermal wear to rock those travel photos without freezing!

Long coats

Ahh, long coats. Something we could never pull off under Singapore’s sweltering heat. While long coats are pretty much something we see in our favourite dramas, going to a country with cooler temperatures means that we can now make our long coat dream a reality without losing our cool and sanity.

Long coats often come in various styles, but be sure to look out for the thickness, size, and the belt option according to your body size. For example, petite girls might prefer a long coat with a come-with belt to ensure that the coat will not look overwhelmingly big on you.

Dresses and leggings

If you love flaunting your legs but have a fear of the cold, pair your dresses with leggings! Similar to how we pair stockings and skirts in Singapore, you can simply stick to this sweet style by donning warmer options like knit skirts and thicker leggings. However, for those who get cold easily, this may still be a little chilly, so be sure to layer on with a warm cardigan on top of your dress.

Casual street wear

While Singaporean fashion tends to be safer and simpler, don’t be shy and feel free to switch up your fashion options when you go overseas! We are talking about those bomber jackets and street fashion that you never dared to wear out for fear of looking out of place amongst your friends dressed casually.

Pairing a print t-shirt with a stylish short jacket and jeans can make for a great casual outfit while travelling around in comfort. Of course, for those who are more conservative but would like to try out new styles can try safe options like army jackets and hoodies to rock that street style that we admire. Going overseas offers a great opportunity for you to experiment and dress however you want without risking your fashion reputation back home.

Leather jackets

On top of casual street wear, we have also seen a renaissance of leather jackets in recent years. In colder countries, leather jackets great protection against strong winds, and also look especially cool and fashionable. If you are planning to party during your trip, a leather jacket is a great go-to option for the night without you having about where to store your bulky layers of clothing/coat while you have fun.

Knit wear with muffler

If you ever fantasize yourself sipping a hot cuppa in cute cosy knit wear, you are definitely not alone. That scene often looks really warm and soothing, as compared to how we often sweat in our worn out pyjamas at home. While travelling, you may opt for a casual, classy knit wear look while having a chill and relaxed itinerary such as café hopping or shopping.

If you are looking at all these fashion options, but am afraid to break the bank on your travel outfits that are impractical for Singapore weather, do take a look at online shopping websites like Tao Bao or Carousell for some cheaper options.

While a down jacket may easily cost SGD100 in Singapore, its possible to find similar options for a fraction of the price online. However, do be careful and read the reviews thoroughly to make sure you get the what you paid for!
